Singing Senior Citizens

IMG_4254 Originally uploaded by photokalia Group of senior citizens singing at the Summer Palace. Again, this isn’t a special performance for the tourists. You can find groups like this on any morning at any of the parks around Beijing. I really love how the old folks there have so much to see and do.

Water Calligraphy

This is a common sight in the mornings in the parks around Beijing. Nice to look at, but I realised that it’s a much better idea in the summer when the sun […]

Wandering around the Hutongs – Part 2

Innovative solution to cold steering wheels. It was common to see pairs of gloves permanently stuck onto steering wheels.   I was most amused to find that each circuit breaker had a family’s name on it.   Flock of birds circling the hutong at dusk. Summer Palace

From what I understand, there are season passes that the senior citizens are entitled to purchase, and they can visit parks anyday, anytime. The rest of us have to pay per entry. There are […]

Shipping an Ant in a Box for an Elephant

My package from Adorama arrived today, containing my 41mm UV filter for my Leitz Summarit 50 f/1.5. It’s a perfect fit in case anyone is wondering. Before I ordered this filter online, I asked around a few shops in the Peninsula Plaza area. The guy at Ron’s Camera obviously doesn’t know his stuff. He told […]

The German court's decision to fine a home owner for not protecting his wifi feels roughly equivalent to a tax for internet dummies. # Better yet, now I have to take a cab into work. I'm actually paying money and wasting time to pick up a parking fine. # Rushed to post office b4 work […]
