Geek aside:
Taking these photos made me realise how spoilt I’ve been by the 5D. For some reason, I find that the 10D’s image quality and noise control are glaringly lacking in comparison. It’s still a very good camera, and it has served me very well on my travels and photo jobs, but given a choice between using the 10D or the 5D, I’d take the 5D any day.

It’s funny how technology creeps up on you without you noticing it. The 10D was the bees knees when I first got it back in 2003 in terms of revolutionary low noise at high ISOs, the first affordable digital SLR, 6 megapixels of CMOS goodness and so on, but compared to today’s technology, the difference is really quite stark. Even though I shot the pictures in RAW to maximise the exposure latitude and to minimise noise levels, the image quality at ISO 200 looks like ISO 800 or even 1600 on the 5D. I suppose that is the advantage of a full-frame sensor and the more advanced noise control technology. I’m actually very tempted to sell this camera now :p
